ABOUT
The LWV of the Flint Area is a local chapter, chartered under the national LWV and the LWV of Michigan. We work to empower and engage residents in our geographic region, which is, historically, all of Genesee County. In 2021, we added Lapeer and Tuscola Counties to our official membership area. We continue to offer mentoring and services to Huron, Sanilac and St. Clair Counties, as they do not have League chapters.
As a grassroots organization, our work is dependent on the members who dedicate themselves to our ideals. Our members understand that educating the public on voting, without partisan-influence, is the best way to reach all citizens. The League never endorses or opposes a candidate for office.
Leagues do take positions on issues that have been adopted through a rigorous process of education, discussion and consensus. We use these position statements, at the local, state and national level, to advocate on issues that are important to our members and the representation we expect from our elected legislators. To see our LWVUS document on our positions statements please visit: https://www.lwv.org/impact-issues
Our volunteers are members who agree to perform the work of the League in a non-partisan manner.
